There is only one truly great football team in the world...Liverpool Football Club
Bill Shankly (refering to the This is Anfield sign):
"It's there to remind our lads who they're playing for, and to remind the opposition who they're playing against."

The nineties have unfortunately been squandered by mismanagement of the club and poor transfers but hopefully the tide is turning with appointment of Gerard Houllier. Houllier has already shown his knowledge of the transfer market by signing 7 new players.
- Sander Westerveld: A 3.75 million buy from Vitesse Arnhem of Holland will hopefully cure the achilles heel of liverpool i.e. a goalkeeper who can command his area, come for crosses and instill confidence.
- Sami Hyypi: The potential to replace the much missed Alan Hansen. Signed from Willem II for 3.25 million, the 25 year old Finnish central defender turned down Champions League Football for the Reds.
- Stephane Henchoz: Signed from freshly relegated Blackburn Rovers for 3.5 million, he will possibly play a backup role to Carragher and Hyypi.
- Dietmar Hamann: Liverpool's second most expensive signing ever at 8 million arrives from Newcastle as the new midfiend general. He will hopefully be able to inspire some confidence in Redknapp and the rest of the midfield.
- Vladimir Smicer: A 4.5 million signing from Lens and possibly the most exciting player to arrive at Anfield this summer. If he can link up well with his Czech international team mate Berger then the sky is the limit.
- Titi Camara: The Guinean arrives at Anfield for 2.6 milliom from Marseille and from what I've seen at the very least he will keep you entertained. The jury is still out!
- Erik Meijer: An experienced tall centre forward will offer something different to Liverpool but will he get much of a chance?
Some great football quotes
Bill Shankly :
"Of course I didn't take my wife to see Rochdale as an anniversary present. It was her birthday. Would I have got married in the football season? Anyway, it was Rochdale reserves."
Bill Shankly :
"Some people believe football is a matter of life and death, I am very disappointed with that attitude. I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
Bill Shankly :
"If a player is not interfering with play or seeking to gain an advantage, then he should be."
Bob Paisley :
"If you're in the penalty area and don't know what to do with the ball, put it in the net and we'll discuss the options later."
Ian Rush (on his time at Juventus) :
"It was like playing in a foreign country."
Bill Shankly (when told he had never experienced playing in a derby) :
"Nonsense! I've kicked every ball, headed out every cross. I once scored a hat-trick; One was lucky, but the others were great goals."
